Japanese auto parts supplier to build Georgia plant

CARROLLLTON, Ga. - A Japanese automotive supplier plans to build a plant in western Georgia and create 200 jobs, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Thursday.

Yachiyo of America Inc. plans to build a 130,000-square foot facility in Carrollton - about 45 miles west of downtown Atlanta, Deal said in a statement.

"Our strategic location at the center of the Southeast, which is the nation's new hub for automotive manufacturing, and our workforce's 100 years of experience in this industry, have contributed to a business climate that has already attracted some 250 automotive manufacturers," Deal said.

"We have been extremely pleased with the high level of interest, cooperation and support received from the State of Georgia and Carroll County, which played a decisive role in our decision-making process," Vice President of Yachiyo of America Inc. Chris Smith said in a written statement.

The Saitama, Japan-based company plans to invest $30 million in its facility at the Carrollton Industrial Park and is looking to fill the new positions within the next three years, Deal said.

Yachiyo of America manufactures plastic fuel tanks and sunroofs. The company employs about 6,800 people worldwide and has five manufacturing plants in North America, state officials said.
