A trial for two of the former Vanderbilt University football players accused of raping a fellow student in a dorm room this summer has been set for Aug. 11.
While Brandon Vandenburg and Cory Batey now have a trial date, their two codefendants, Jaborian McKenzie and Brandon Banks, had their cases severed by the prosecutor in Davidson County Criminal Court Wednesday morning.
Deputy District Attorney General Tom Thurman announced the decision to separate the cases in open court as two of the four players appeared in the courtroom. All four have pleaded not guilty and remain free on bond.
