Complete Eye Care recently expanded and remodeled its Optical Shop.

If you’ve driven down Dayton Pike at all, chances are you’ve noticed the blue building that’s home to Complete Eye Care. But what you may not know is that inside lies a plethora of options to help meet any and every vision need.

“We truly do offer complete eye care,” said office manager Debbie Pykkonen. “Our office handles everything from vision exams for glasses and contacts to medical treatments for diabetic eye care, treatment of glaucoma and cataract surgery.”

Complete Eye Care began 13 years ago when Dr. J.D. Bonner realized that people north of Chattanooga didn’t have an ophthalmologist convenient to them. In recent months, optometrist Dr. Jack Vontillius has been added to the staff.

Complete Eye Care is located at 9453 Dayton Pike in Soddy-Daisy. For more information about services or to schedule an appointment, call 423- 332-8222 or visit

“With Dr. Vontillius here to help with routine patients, Dr. Bonner is able to concentrate on medical and surgical patient needs,” Pykkonen explained.

In addition to its growing staff, Complete Eye Care has expanded its Optical Shop that was unveiled in August of this year. Now patients as well as the general public have access to an extensive selection of frames, lenses, contacts and sunglasses complete with any and all accessories to go with them.

“There’s something here to fit every style, need and budget,” Pykkonen said.

Those wanting to visit the Optical Shop can drop in any time.

“All they need to do is bring a copy of their current prescription,” Pykkonen said. “We are accepting new patients and hope that people will consider us.”

Complete Eye Care is open Monday-Friday with late appointments available on Tuesday and Thursday until 7 p.m. The office accepts most medical and vision insurances.

“Patients can be sure they will get a complete and thorough eye exam when they come in,” Pykkonen said. “We will make any follow-up appointments as needed depending on the patient and be sure we assist them with making the right eyewear choice.”

To name a few among the group’s selection of frames, patients can expect to see Coach, Gucci, Silhouette, Costa and more. Contact lenses include top brands as well, such as Air Optix and Acuvue Oasis.

“For glasses lens choices we offer Crizal, Zeiss and more,” Pykkonen added. “Transition lenses are also available, including a brand new changeable polarized option that works in your car called Transitions Vantage.” Contact lens options are not to be overlooked either and Complete Eye Care is ready to assist you, with many choices from multi-focal to bifocal to contact lenses for astigmatism.

“With our new expansion and so many services, we’re the biggest and best we’ve ever been,” Pykkonen said of Complete Eye Care’s status to date. “Our vision is ‘to be the premier eye care facility that patients look to for complete eye care.’ To achieve that, we strive to be sure that patients and their families receive nothing less than first-class service, which includes compassionate, ethical and thorough medical care every step of the way.”

Hickory Valley Retirement Community threw the party of the season Oct. 10, celebrating the arrival of cooler temperatures and changing leaves with a Harvest Fest celebration. Attendees feasted on a Low Country boil and seasonal desserts, sipped apple cider and danced and tapped their feet to tunes from a live band as the afternoon passed on.
An unfortunate truth of podiatry is that many medical conditions can affect the feet of anyone – whether they are sedentary or active, overweight or not.
It’s not something to brag about, but Chattanooga consistently ranks in the top 10 worst cities for allergy sufferers, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation. And while the weather is finally cooling down, the fall allergy season is heating up.
Family dynamics are often affected by the stress of an unpleasant reality: an aging loved one who requires help from a caregiver.
