The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Hmmm Mr. Bennett draws political satire to shine a light on the ignorance and folly of those who are supposedly "governing." They are the ones who should be coming up with solutions, they are the ones who were elected to come up with solutions not Mr. Bennett. He's doing EXACTLY what he should be doing.

As far as the solution, one thing for sure the solution the teabaggers came up with definitely was not going to work but they were too ignorant to see it. They thought they could keep making demands of President Obama and he would eventually cave in to their demands as he did with the sequestration. That was their idea of negotiation. Unfortunately, for them he grew a pair of "Presidential Balls"(got that one off a T.V. show lol)bigger than Cruz's and the rest of the teabaggers and they got jack from him.

Do the so-called conservatives know how much federal debt was run up by George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and their neo-con cronies? For starters, their unfunded, unnecessary and incompetently managed invasion of Iraq funneled billions of federal money to Halliburton, Blackwater and other mercenaries. A lot of that money just disappeared, unaccounted for. So, when they whine about the federal debt, does that mean they are ignorant, demented, or just so biased and bigoted that they can't help spouting lies about how we got into the current mess?

No party is immune to math. It applies to all of them. The more you spend, the higher the debt will go. Money coming in has to exceed money going out to turn this thing around. I completely disagree with how Obama has handled the situation. I'm not saying that everyone else is innocent, but the situation could have been handled better if the President of the United States would step up and pull these parties together, instead of speaking about doom and gloom on national TV, or going around and making public appearances to get public backing. He should pull them all together and tell them "we're not leaving until a solid solution has been reached". They now have until January/February, so there's no reason to act surprised when the deadline hits. They are running a freakin' country, not a convenience store. That store would have gone out of business a long time ago.

Perhaps the cost of the shut down was the cost of tuition for both parties. We will see if they learned that talking and negotiating is the better choice. Obama's on the job training is expensive but it is not his fault that he had zero business experience and very little governing experience.

I maintain that the best solution for Obamacare is to insist on it being implemented as passed and scheduled. Roll back exceptions to those favored plus congress and staff. Add taxes an equal percent at all levels to be paid without exception in order to avoid any budget affect. It is easy to demand things of the government as long as they appear to be free or that they are financed by others.

The question to those advocating continued spending at the same pace and increasing the debt to do so, where is the limit, when is the debt too much? What percent of revenue to service the debt is too much? Are you willing to pay taxes at a rate that equals spending and reduces the debt 1% per year?

The goal for all of our leaders in Congress for the past three years should have focused on getting this country back to work. Wasn't that what the election was all about in 2010?

Wasn't that the promise made by the Republicans? They were going to repair our economy. They knew how to do it. Uh huh...yeah...sure.

Jobs create wages and increased taxes are a by-product of jobs.

Deficit spending is not going to disappear until everyone who needs a job has one and some common sense is used to trim the fat and waste in Government, and to date there doesn't seem to be one single person in Washington willing to propose doing what needs to be done, and instead they have been arguing like kids on a playground for three years.

Congress as a whole has failed this nation to do what they were elected to do.

Blaming the President is great, but it takes the focus off of those in Washington with the power to revive this nation, who can do everything to bring down the debt, and to truly serve this nation as leaders.

The debt is not ever going to be addressed as long as the focus on entitlements is all that is focused on.

$3 billion in borrowed funds was appropriated by Congress and awarded to the man who blinked on behalf of the Republican Party, which will be used to hopefully revive his plunging poll numbers.

Congress is indeed in the toilet and there doesn't appear to be a flush handle that the American people can use to dispose of them.

I doubt that next year will be any more productive, as the year will be filled with politicians running for reelection.

1) Liberals hate Condi Rice... an extremely intelligent and successful black woman, who should serve as a role model, is constantly maligned by the left.

2) Alberto Gonzales.... liberals have been against him from the beginning. why are they so terified of a latino being in a position of power?

3) The Iraqi people... why does the left insist that brown people don't want or need democracy? Isn't it possible that they do want to live as we do? Why would liberals deny them this, just because they are brown skinned?

4) The African-American community in the U.S... liberals push affirmative action and welfare programs as if blacks are children who can't succeed on their own or fend for themselves. blacks should be insulted by this.

5) Barak Obama... voting for a guy just because of his race? That's racist.

6) President Bush had the most diverse senior cabinet ever even more diverse than obama. Why don't liberals acknowledge this?

And apologists like you never fail to come up with lousy excuses for the racism that has been exhibited against this President from Day One. First, there were the Birthers, a low-life bunch of losers if ever there was one. They started a whisper campaign that he couldn't possibly be legit because they had EVIDENCE he was born in Kenya and of course that negated him being a Native Born Citizen. BTW I keep waiting on that same sorry good for nothing bunch of losers to tell the citizens of this country why they aren't dashing teabagger Cruz's hopes of becoming President. After all HE WAS BORN ON FOREIGN SOIL AND ONLY THIS YEAR RENOUNCED HIS CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP AND HIS FATHER WAS CUBAN. But you see they are silent because Cruz has already pointed out the fact his mother was an American Citizen. Evidently it never dawned on the ignorant Birthers that President Obama's mother was an American Citizen and he was born in HAWAII WHICH WAS NOT A FOREIGN COUNTRY. Although for most of those low-lifes it might as well have been because most of the people of Hawaii certainly aren't all White.

Then of course because President Obama's father was a Muslim then he certainly must have been a Muslim. And that of course made him some kind of "Homeland"terrorist waiting for the right moment to have Al Qaeda attack this country. One idiot right here in this very state who should really know better since he's the Lt. Governor just last month accused President Obama of trying to give aid to Al Qaeda during the Syrian Crisis.

As far as the Confederate flag goes, everytime a bunch of teabaggers get together someone shows up with a Confederate flag hollering they want to take their country back. Back to What? As far as I'm concerned there is only ONE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THAT IS THE STARS AND STRIPES AND NOT THE STARS AND BARS. The stars and bars is a flag of a bunch of losers. Yeah, that's right I said losers. THEY LOST THE WAR BETWEEN THE STATES. THEY GOT THEIR AZZES KICKED SIX WAYS TO SUNDAY AND THE UNION PREVAILED. But there are those who still want to wave that flag and talk about taking their country back. Again, I say Back to what? They lost in 1865 and they have lost again in 2013. But they can keep on moving backwards especially in the South while the rest of the country moves forward.

Ah, I just feel the love oozing from the liberals here. Look, love is Christ dying for our sins and rising from the dead. A cartoon celebrating another defense of the problem against solution is neither in substance nor in style loving, and the cartoonists followers aren't rising above his level. There's nothing wrong with our President's skin color: it's his disastrous policies, of which he is quite free to repent as Ronald Reagan repented of similar errors, that are hurting our country. Some of his critics are racists? Let them repent of racism. Some of his allies claim all his critics are racists? Let them repent of lying about me, and about most Tea-ites.

You know why I got a Libertarian Party card? Some liberal (more polite, as I recall, than most of the liberal groupies here) said something like "taxes provide needed and appreciated services, like roads and bridges, schools and teachers, parks, jobs, clean air, clean water, security" (quoting today's Times editorial) and I noticed that not just in theory, but in actual practice, business already provides those things. The first road reserved for cars in the US was a private toll road; and the Chunnel shows that huge infrastructure can be private. CCS, GPS, Baylor, and the like--besides Covenant College, Harvard, and the like: private schools. Disney : parks. The private sector: jobs. Clean air? Tokyo used to have oxygen vending machines. (OK, some regulation here is reasonable. Instead of testing every car, test cars going down the road and pull the big polluters. It can be done.) Clean water? Tennessee-American. (In Britain, streams can be privately owned, and the owners have an incentive to keep them clean.) Security? Walden Security?

Not that what government does is wholly useless, but business has to keep its customers happy, but government gets paid whether its customers are happy, or not. So business keeps improving and government keeps bloating. And government is loathsomely paternalistic: do these bureaucrats really know how we ought to live so much better than we do ourselves? And the US government is loaded with unsustainable promises, whereas businesses have to keep enough money coming in to sustain themselves. And if a business goes broke, it's not a train wreck like liberalism.

From Wiki - Karl Denninger:

In the aftermath of the March 2008 collapse of Bear Stearns, he founded the website Fed Up USA. He came to national attention for the criticisms of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 which he posted on Fed Up USA in September that year. Of special concern to Denninger was the over-the-counter trading of credit default swaps, as well as the high leverage of financial institutions; his objections to the bailout plan stemmed from the fact that it did not address either of these issues. He has also spoken out against high-frequency trading, particularly in the aftermath of the 2010 Flash Crash.

In October 2011, he appeared onThe Dylan Ratigan Show on MSNBC and Russia Today to voice his support for the Occupy Wall Street movement.

He only appears to an opportunist that attaches himself to movements that he can exploit for his single issue viewpoint.

From your link that you obviously didn’t read or comprehend

Alexander, the ranking member of the appropriations subcommittee that funds water projects, said he and Feinstein, the committee’s chair, were responsible for the provision.

“According to the Army Corps of Engineers, 160 million taxpayer dollars will be wasted because of canceled contracts if this language is not included,” Alexander said in a statement. “Sen. Feinstein and I, as chairman and ranking member of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, requested this provision. It has already been approved this year by the House and Senate.”

The Senate’s version of the Water Resources Development Act, passed in May, included more complicated language that had the same impact.

Authorization doesn’t directly provide any additional money for the project but would make it eligible for inclusion in appropriations bills.

If the $2.9 billion is ever actually appropriated, half would come from general funds and half would come from a 20-cents-per-gallon fuel tax paid by barge owners under current law.

Let’s wrap up here ... No money was appropriated but, like the doofus you are, you bought into the MSM’s attack on one of their political enemies.

Didja hear about Jimmy Johnson? No. Not the former football coach. This guy was a bass angler and was murdered in Jackson Mississippi by a black 17-year-old. That’s the same age St. Trayvon of Skittles was.

Jackson police arrested a teenager in the fatal shooting of bass angler Jimmy Johnson. Shaun Brown, 17, is charged with capital murder. Police say he has confessed to the crime. WAPT reports that police executed a search warrant Wednesday morning at a home on Delmar Street. Officers were seen carrying a red hooded sweatshirt from the house that was similar to one worn by a suspect in a surveillance photo released earlier this week. Officers also searched a wooded area for the gun they believe was used in the crime. Hey! He was wearing a hoodie, just like St. Trayvon. Too bad Johnson didn’t have a gun, but if he had shot this thug, it would be national news and the thug would have been another saint, senselessly killed by an evil white dude. A black kid shooting a white guy? Ho hum. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Now, it’s off to Memphis where three feral black teenagers shot and killed a white contractor.

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – A third teenager is charged in the death of contractor J.P. Shelley, who was shot and killed during a robbery. Two suspects arrested in murder of husband, father Terrell Johnson, 17, was arrested around 11 p.m. Monday. He faces two charges: first degree murder in perpetration of aggravated robbery, as well as aggravated robbery. Two other teenagers, Derek Cunningham, 15, and Corey Sandifer, 16, are also in custody facing the same charges. According to Memphis police, J.P. Shelley was robbed and then shot while working on a house on the 4700 block of Scottsdale Avenue on October 4,2013. He later died at The MED from his injuries.

Do the so-called conservatives know how much federal debt was run up by George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and their neo-con cronies? So, when they whine about the federal debt, does that mean they are ignorant, demented, or just so biased and bigoted that they can't help spouting lies about how we got into the current mess?

Here you go ... I posted this before and it should explain “how we got into the current mess”.

Updated all values to 2013 level to account for inflation and they are in parentheses. The totals and yearly average deficits are in brackets. Sure looks like Obama is absolutely leading the pack in rolling up debt.

Ronald Reagan: Took office January 1981. Total debt: $848 ($2,182) billion Left office January 1989. Total debt: $2,698 ($5,089) billion Percent change in total debt: +218%

[$2,907 billion / 8 yrs = $363 billion/yr.]

George H.W. Bush: Took office January 1989. Total debt: $2,698 ($5,089) billion Left office 20 January 1993. Total debt: $4,188 ($6,778) billion Percent change in total debt: +55%

[$1,689 billion / 4 yrs = $422 billion/yr.]

Bill Clinton: Took office 20 January 1993. Total debt: $4,188 ($6,778) billion Left office 20 January 2001. Total debt: $5,728 ($7,569) billion Percent change in total debt: +37%

[$791 billion / 8 yrs = $99 billion/yr.]

George W. Bush: Took office 20 January 2001. Total debt: $5,728 ($7,569) billion Left office 20 January 2009. Total debt: $10,627 ($11,585) billion Percent change in total debt: +86%

[$4,016 billion / 8 yrs = $502 billion/yr.]

Barack Obama: Took office 20 January 2009. Total debt: $10,627 ($11,585) billion Total debt (as of the end of today 10/15/13): $16,755 billion Percent change in total debt:

[$5,170 billion / 4.75 = $1,088 billion / yr]

Fomenting trillion dollar wars of choice, manipulating the capitalist business model leaving our economy an empty husk, and draining away the financial life's blood of the country to feed their craven religionism are the greatest threats to the survival of America.

Obama was raised, indoctrinated and ill educated by Communists thus Obama is a Communist .... G.D. America! .... Right?

First to your point of "childish", you don't like the term teabagger, you don't like the term uneducated hillbillies, so if I called them the name they truly rate, I would not be allowed on this board. To your point of "didn't realize the teabillies tried to bring this country to its knees". Where in the world have you been for the past 5 years, and in particular the last 15 days. There were 40 childish teabagging teabillies in the house, with their lunatic supporters cheering them on, that almost sent this country and the whole world off the cliff. You need to catch up on some news.

The goal for all of our leaders in Congress for the past three years should have focused on getting this country back to work. Wasn't that what the election was all about in 2010?

Wasn't that the promise made by the Republicans? They were going to repair our economy. They knew how to do it. Uh huh...yeah...sure.

It’s difficult when Dingy Harry won’t bring bills, passed by the house, to a vote in the Senate and Obama threatens vetos unless they have it entirely their way.

Congress as a whole has failed this nation to do what they were elected to do.

But Obama has not?

Blaming the President is great, but it takes the focus off of those in Washington with the power to revive this nation, who can do everything to bring down the debt, and to truly serve this nation as leaders.

So Obama doesn’t have any ”power to revive this nation”? ... I think he only wants power to “fundamentally change” this nation only to his fringe view point.

The debt is not ever going to be addressed as long as the focus on entitlements is all that is focused on.

No .... the $80 to $120 trillion in unfunded liabilities are no problem at all .... Right?

$3 billion in borrowed funds was appropriated by Congress and awarded to the man who blinked on behalf of the Republican Party, which will be used to hopefully revive his plunging poll numbers.

That’s a lie as I pointed out above.

Congress is indeed in the toilet and there doesn't appear to be a flush handle that the American people can use to dispose of them.

Who is that jug-eared individual that they are mixed in with?

So you’re going to “try (and) hang” them .... why have the trial when the punishment is predetermined.

BTW ... I see nothing different about your justice and George Zimmerman’s justice except his would save the government money they wouldn’t have to borrow.... Right? Wait ... I forgot about the millions the state of Florida spent on a “show” trial that was destined to fail due to the facts.

moonkat,

The Tea Party started because President Bush was being irresponsible. That is right I voted for President Bush and I was disappointed in how much he spent. The senior prescription drug plan implemented during his term was not funded and went to the debt. That was wrong. So if you did not like President Bush how can you like obama? Obama is Bush on steroids when it comes to spending. Ask yourself this liberals. Obama said he wants to fundamentally change America. Is it not odd he will not come out and say what he wants to fundamentally change it to? I am pissed at the media and politicians because they will not ask him this simple question. Not that he would answer it with the truth. He would lay out some BS like he did with you liberals that voted for his sorry a$$. By the way, I said how President Bush messed up and I can do that because I do not view him as a God like you liberals do obama. Obama gets away with all his failures because you chickensh!t liberals are to scared to hold him accountable. Try it, it will make you feel good.

The whole republican party does, however, remind me of the "good Germans" stood by and let the Nazi's go about their business.

Of course no one on the left “stood by and let the (Communists) go about their business”.

From “The Black Book Of Communism”:

Communist regimes are responsible for a greater number of deaths than any other political ideal or movement, including Nazism. The statistics of victims includes executions, famine, deaths resulting from deportations, physical confinement, or through forced labor.

65 million in the People's Republic of China

20 million in the Soviet Union

2 million in Cambodia

2 million in North Korea

1.7 million in Africa

1.5 million in Afghanistan

1 million in the Communist states of Eastern Europe

1 million in Vietnam

150,000 in Latin America (mainly Cuba)

10,000 deaths "resulting from actions of the international Communist movement and Communist parties not in power."

So that is why they continue to say he is perfect. They are afraid obama will strike them down for speaking out against his failures. Now that is sick.

And you think because a Black Man wrote this article praising the teabaggers as some kind of legitimate voice of reason that it makes it alright for all the racist crap they say and do at their rallies, right?

Would an intelligent and educated “Black Man” lend his support to a group that was inherently racist? Would it be rational for him to tar a whole group by the actions of a few? If so then where is the defence from you Fleabaggers for the excesses of the OWS (the infamous 99% that represented you). You know ... the sh^&$#@ on police cars, raping female comrades, professing dictatorial Marxist and Stalinist political beliefs, destroying public and private property.

Because just calling him a Kenyan, a Muslim, waving that Confederate flag of a bunch of losers at the front gates of the White House does not make any of them racists right? They're just criticizing his policies right? Give me a break.

The guy who wrote that article is nothing more than another version of Uncle Thomas (Clarence that is) and everything he wrote points that out.

So you're saying that a “Black Man” is incapable of honestly holding a Conservative political viewpoint. How is it that you not propagating a racist stereotype?

There are definitely some incumbent Republicans we’re not going to support again.

  • David French, lobbyist, National Retail Federation

I don’t know of anybody in the business community who takes the side of the Taliban minority.

  • Dirk Van Dongen, chief lobbyist for the National Association of Wholesaler Distributors

The need is now more than ever to elect people who understand the free market and not silliness.

  • Scott Reed, senior political strategist, U.S. Chamber of Commerce

The right is a multiplicity of various groups, some of which aren't even Republicans, but who think they can control the Republican Party.

  • Senator Orrin Hatch, R-UT

The stupid wing of the Republican Party.

  • Mike Murphy, Republican strategist

I called you a liar for what you wrote previously and I stand by that claim. Here is what you posted.

$3 billion in borrowed funds was appropriated by Congress and awarded to the man who blinked on behalf of the Republican Party, which will be used to hopefully revive his plunging poll numbers.

It was not $3 billion

It was not appropriated

It was not borrowed funds

It did save $160 million not wasted due to canceled contracts

You lied plain and simple and you the one always tooting your horn about being nothing if not factual and true... Low grade

BTW ... John McCain is also a lying SOS for this quote where he issued the same Fleabagger talking point lie that you did.

“These people are like alcoholics. They can’t resist taking a drink. It’s ridiculous. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It should have gone through the normal legislative process. It’s their legislative reputation even more and makes it even more difficult for me to vote for the overall bill—-which I will. It shows that there are people in this body are willing to use any occasion to get an outrageous pork barrel project done at the cost of millions and millions of dollars. It’s disgusting,”

The old fool is reaching the end of the line and all he’s interested in is how many cocktail parties he can be invited to with the “right people” during his golden retirement. I once made the oath I would never vote for him but I sinned and did so. It is the single greatest political shame I have ever experienced

What part of the constitution did they violate or what illegal activity did they engage in? I don't agree with them or their strategy but I support their option to do what they did in what to date has been a republic with freedoms

Do you also think Obama should be tried and hanged for misleading and making promises he could not keep and has not kept? If you like your hc plan you can keep it, if you like your doctor there will be no change, period! If I don't cut the deficit in half in my first term I shouldn't get a second term plus as you know many more.

The only reason I see for your desire to try and kill them is you don't agree with them or their legal right to do what they did. That is scary.

Republican Political apologists are absolutely the worst.

$2.9 BILLION pledged at a time that a raise in the debt ceiling is being contested, to the home district of the man who brokered the deal, and deflected in the press by the another Senator whose state also benefits from the deal.

I know well that this is politics as usual. This "Kentucky Kickback" is payment for his taking the heat off of John Boehner.

An idiot can see what this was all about.

$775 million was appropriated originally.

Call me a liar all day long, and attempt to diffuse the issue the way you do routinely, but whether the money is spent today or over the next five years, so long as we have debt as high as it is today, it will indeed be borrowed money that will be used, and it will forever and a day be a reward to the Republican who saved the Republican's asses from publicly eating crow pie on national TV.

Senator Lamar Alexander's seat is safe, so he too can take some heat for awarding the gift to Mitch McConnell, who needed a boost in the eyes of the public.

"It was me who appropriated the funds....not Mitch."

Attaching it to that "must pass" legislation was brilliant, for if it was a piece of stand-alone legislation, three-quarters of the Republicans would have shot it down, and every one of you Republican cheerleaders know it.

It's not a big deal, but pork barrel spending is done by Republicans just as often as any Democrat ever has been guilty of.

The funny thing about all of this is that right here in our own area, the Federal funds ran out on the Chickamauga Dam project, half-finished, three years ago THIS VERY DATE.

Senator Alexander can sure drum up $2.9 BILLION for the State of Kentucky, at a time that many are upset about deficit spending, but a project sits in his own home state, half finished, with little hope at the moment that repairs will resume any time soon.
