DOTHAN, Ala. — A woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for intentionally hitting her ex-boyfriend with a car in September 2012.
Jayela Regina McShane of Dothan pleaded guilty to assault and intimidating a witness, and was sentenced Monday in Houston County Circuit Court.
The woman's attorney, Chris Capps, submitted an application for probation, which will be considered by the judge in mid-December. McShane will be held in the county jail until the hearing.
Investigators have said the impact of McShane's car caused her boyfriend to fall over a bridge guard rail and into a creek below. Officials have said he suffered a fractured knee, a broken hand and a torn liver.
The Dothan Eagle reported that McShane was initially arrested for attempted murder and officials later reduced the charges.
