A Soddy-Daisy man who fell 70 feet from a tree Tuesday night is injured, but alive after chasing a mountain lion up a tree on the ridge near Ward Road.

Jason Newman, 33, reportedly climbed the tree's limbs to chase the animal, but fell from the tree in the dark night. He was about a half-mile into the wood when the incident occurred, breaking his left femur, ankle and two bones in his right arm, as well as fracturing his back.

Soddy-Daisy police and fire crews responded to Newman at 9:17 p.m. Tuesday. He was reportedly in surgery Wednesday and is expected to recover.
