Southwire plans to expand in Carroll County, Ga., where it will add 375 jobs and invest $95 million at a time when the market for wire is spooling up, according to a news release.

The company's sales are heavily dependant on new residential, commercial and industrial construction, which fuel demand for the wires that supply power and data across the country. One of every three homes built in the U.S. contains wire made by the company, and half of the utility cable used to distribute electricity is made with Southwire wire, the company says.

The latest expansion, which includes a purchase of a 144,000-square-foot facility in Villa Rica, Ga., and and purchase of Sony Music's 635,000-square-foot facility in Carrollton, will significantly increase the company's footprint in the western half of Georgia, said Gov. Nathan Deal.

"This homegrown company was founded here decades ago, and its growth in Georgia reflects the advanced skills of our dedicated workforce as well as its overall satisfaction with our business-friendly environment," Deal said.

With the housing market improving, it's a natural time for Southwire to expand, continuing its post-recession rebound. In 2011 and 2012, the company added 89 jobs in Coffee County and another 600 jobs in Carroll County after tightening its belt during the first years of the housing crisis.
