Birmingham police say woman faces homicide charge in fatal crash that killed 10 year old

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A 34-year-old woman faces a homicide charge in a fatal crash that killed a 10-year-old.

Birmingham police said Sherita Harvey has been charged with murder with reckless indifference, first-degree assault and other child abuse counts as a result of the crash Saturday.

Police said they arrived at the scene and found two adults and four children suffering from injuries. One child was pronounced dead.

Authorities said that Harvey appeared intoxicated. Police said that she stopped at a nightclub prior to the accident and left children in her car.

Harvey was being held at the Jefferson County Jail. It was unclear Monday whether she had an attorney.
