DECATUR, Ala. - A north Alabama youth has become the state's first student to get a special seal of approval from Microsoft.

The Decatur Daily reports that 15-year-old Bryan Keenum has achieved master certification through a program called Microsoft IT Academy.

Decatur High School Principal Travis Schrimsher called the designation a "pretty big deal."

Keenum says he just does his work. But he was pretty impressed when he learned he was the only student to get the designation.

The honors student grew up attached to computers, and his interest has continued into high school.

The certification means Keenum tested proficient in six Microsoft software programs, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.
