Giuseppe Verdi

UTC's Department of Music and Opera Theater will celebrate two important anniversaries Friday, Nov. 1.

Performers in "An Evening of Opera Scenes" will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) and the 100th anniversary of the birth of British composer Benjamin Britten (1913-1976).

The scenes by Verdi will be the duet "What's the Meaning of This Masquerade?" from an earlier work, "Un Giorno di Regno (King for a Day)," sung by Connor Berhmann and Brittany Fong, and the duet "Dinne Alcun Quest'eremo" from the later masterpiece "Simon Boccanegra," sung by Kala Cisson and Perry Ward.

From the works of Britten, Berhman, Fong, Cisson and Adrian Romero will perform "Awakening Quartet" from "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and Act 2, Scene 2 from "Albert Herring."

Also, the full company along with several singers from UTC's Chamber Singers will present "A Weekend in the Country" from "A Little Night Music" by Sondheim. To conclude, CJ Coffey, Taylor Goode and Behrmann will perform Gilbert and Sullivan's "My Eyes Are Fully Open" from "Ruddigore."

The performance will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall of the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine St. Tickets are $10 general admission, $7 for students and senior citizens.
