Signal, Young third at Berry meet

A number of area cross country programs went to Mount Berry near Rome, Ga., to participate in the Berry Invitational meet Saturday, and some teams and individuals had solid performances.

The Signal Mountain girls' team finished third in the 1A-4A division, with junior Mallory Young coming in third individually. She ran the five-kilometer event in 19 minutes, 56 seconds. Teammate Becca Umbarger was 12th in 21:01, while Madison Drennan finished 26th in 21:57. Baylor's girls were ninth, led by Rachel Schatzman's 40th-place finish in 22:21.

Coahulla Creek's girls were 24th, while the boys finished 12th. Sadota Fraire had a 23rd-place individual finish in 18:12 for the Colts. Teammates Stephen Heinichen (38th, 18:49) and Walt Douglas (55th, 19:18) also posted sub-20 minute time.

Signal Mountain's boys finished 19th.

Ooltewah's boys ran in the 5A-6A division and finished 28th, with Garrett Flores running the best time for an area boy, 17:22, good for 36th place. Teammate Jack Marshall finished in 19:25.
