The Tennessee Valley Authority, Georgia Power and Alabama Power were among the top 10 utilities recognized for their economic development programs by Site Selection magazine.

The monthly business magazine, published by Conway Data Inc., picked the best utilities for economic recruitment in its September issue based upon their results in 2012.

"This year's Top Utilities know how to help companies, projects and communities hit growth milestones," said Adam Bruns, managing editor of Site Selection. "And they all know it takes a lot more than special rates to get there."

Through the first 10 months of its fiscal year, TVA estimates its economic development programs worked to help create or retain 46,000 jobs with a total capital investment of 4.6 billion in TVA's 7-state region. Since 2008, TVA calculates that its economic development programs and incentives helped create or retain 250,000 jobs with $29 billion of new investment.
