Business Briefs: Auto supplier to add 115 jobs in Knoxville

Walmart opens in Sweetwater

A new 200-employee Walmart will open Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. in Sweetwater, Tenn. The new store at 935 State Highway 11 is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will include a pharmacy, grocery and wide array of general merchandise. To mark the store opening, store manager Daniel Casillas said Walmart will award $8,000 in grants to local community groups.

"Our residents, who are already shopping at Walmart locations, will now be able to keep those tax dollars local, and many new jobs will be added to the area," Sweetwater Mayor Doyle F. Lowe said."


ARC to add 115 new jobs

ARC Automotive, Inc. will expand its Knoxville plant and add 115 jobs to meet its growing domestic and global sales. The manufacturer of inflator products for airbag applications is spending $3 million to enlarge its 21-year-old complex.The Knoxville-based company, which has offices in Japan and Korea and manufacturing facilities in China and Mexico, is bringing more of its production to the U.S.

"Fast-growing, forward-thinking companies like ARC Automotive not only see the benefits of doing business in Tennessee, but also focus their efforts to return high quality manufacturing jobs from overseas markets," said Bill Hagerty, Tennessee's commissioner for economic and community development.
