GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - Crystal Cathedral founder and former televangelist the Rev. Robert H. Schuller has been diagnosed with cancer.

Daughter Sheila Schuller Coleman said during a recent sermon that the 86-year-old Schuller is undergoing treatment for esophageal cancer that has spread to his lymph nodes and the news also was included Wednesday in a family statement posted online.

The statement posted online at the Hope Center of Christ said that oncologists told her father he could live for two years with radiation and chemotherapy.

Schuller, who started the popular "Hour of Power" broadcast and built Orange County's Crystal Cathedral, was hospitalized in July after a fall at his home.

Schuller resigned from the ministry's board in 2012, two years after the famed church filed for bankruptcy.
