Teen sought for attempted murder arrested after high-speed chase in Gordon County

A man wanted for attempted murder in Hamilton County was arrested Thursday night after a high-speed chase in Georgia.

Around 8 p.m, according to a Gordon County Sheriff's Office press release, a deputy spotted Marcus Dewitt Smith driving north on Interstate 75. The deputy tried to stop Smith, and Smith drove off faster than 100 mph.

During the chase, Smith, 19, crashed his car near Exit 317, and the Sheriff's Office arrested him on a charge of attempting to elude. According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office website, the department has active warrants for Smith on charges of illegal possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and attempted first-degree murder.
