2 people die after being pulled from burning home in Sandy Springs, Ga.

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Firefighters pulled a man and a woman from a burning duplex north of Atlanta, but both were later pronounced dead.

Three firefighters were recovering from minor injuries after the early this morning blaze in Sandy Springs.

Officials said fire crews had to force their way into the building on North River Parkway. Once inside, they found a man in his 50s and a woman in her 80s, both in cardiac arrest.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said both people were later pronounced dead.

WSB-TV reports that one firefighter hurt his knee while getting the woman out of the home. Another burned his hand when the flames inside the home rekindled. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that a third firefighter became overcome by heat. The firefighters are expected to recover.
