Two performances this weekend will kick off multimedia artist Tim Hinck's Counterpoint Concert Series, which often highlights compositions that are rarely heard in Chattanooga.

Featured at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, will be Brahms' 3rd Violin Sonata and Barber's Violin Concerto. Violinist Evelyn Petcher of Peabody Conservatory will be the guest artist.

On his Facebook page, Hinck describes the technically demanding Barber concerto as "viciously difficult," adding, "Come by, if for no other reason than to see me sweat."

A wine reception will follow the performance.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, Hinck will be joined by local mezzo-soprano Sara Snider Schone, flutist Christa Brill Dingman, violinist Breanna Thornton, violist Emily Kurlinski and cellists/composer Joshua Adam Bermudez for a concert of Spanish, English and French chamber music.

The featured works are the Turina Piano Quartet, Bridge's "Phantasie Quartet" and Ravel's "Chansons Madècasses."

Both concerts will take place at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 848 Ashland Ave. Admission is by donation.
