You see a police car or an ambulance at a neighbor's house and wonder, "What's going on?"
A house down the street had a "For Sale" sign out front and now it doesn't. Who bought it?
You heard that someone you know opened a new business. How do you find out if that's true?
People subscribe to the Chattanooga Times Free Press because they want to know more about the world around them. We're all curious about what's going on in the world, but even more specifically, what's going on right here in our city or in our neighborhood.
Starting today, the Times Free Press will be giving you that type of information in raw, unfiltered form in a brand-new section -- Etc.
Crime reports. Home sales. New business licenses. Restaurant health ratings. Marriages. Divorces. Bankruptcies. Cars for sale. Jobs that need to be filled. Special offers for shoppers. All of those will be in Etc., information you can't get anywhere else.
Etc. will be inside your daily paper in place of the Classifieds section. But don't panic; while Etc. features a whole new look, Classifieds' lists of cars, homes, jobs and services aren't going anywhere -- they'll just be in Etc. You'll have access to some of the same data that our reporters use to break stories in your neighborhood, while still getting the always-popular lists of goods and services for sale.
We're taking a good thing and making it better, creating a marketplace of ideas and information alongside our existing marketplace of stuff. Etc. is Latin for "and so on," and we are making sure it lives up to its name.
