CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - Work crews from the Georgia Department of Transportation will be on the highways of Dade and Catoosa counties today through Thursday.
Workers will be installing reflective raised pavement markers on state Route 58 in Dade County, according to a news release.
In Catoosa, workers will be patching asphalt on SR2 and SR151.
Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.
Motorists are asked to be watchful and drive carefully when workers are present.
FORT PAYNE, Ala. - The second annual Spookapalooza pumpkin carving contest is set for Oct. 21-26 at DeSoto State Park near Fort Payne, Ala.
The contest is open to all ages and themes, though park officials ask that carvers put politics and sports aside.
Entries will be judged on overall appearance, creativeness, neatness and originality.
Carvers can provide their own pumpkins or get them at the park's Country Store starting Oct. 21. Deadline for entry is 10 a.m. CDT Oct. 26 at the Nature Center. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m. CDT at the campfire ring in the improved campground.

UNION CITY, Tenn. - Dinosaurs are returning to West Tennessee.
The Union City Daily Messenger reported that The Discovery Park of America, which is set to open Nov. 1 in Union City, will feature four "islands" of stationary dinosaurs from the Triceratops to the well-known Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Builders such as David Livingston have been prepping the dinosaurs for show, unloading and re-creating skeletons more than 40 feet long in some cases. The educational facility also will feature 10 indoor galleries that explore topics from natural and regional history to science and technology.
The park cost about $100 million to build and was funded by Union City native Robert Kirkland through the Robert E. and Jenny D. Kirkland Foundation.
SAVANNAH, Ga. - An Ellabell family was rescued from a coastal Georgia island after having to abandon ship in the Ossabaw Sound, U.S. Coast Guard officials said Sunday.
The Savannah Morning News reported Jenna Mitchell; her husband, Jerry; and their 4-year-old son, Justin, sailed to the island in a 15-foot-long boat for a picnic Saturday and ran into trouble on the way back.
No injuries were reported.
