Big Five: Tennessee 4th in U.S. for best tax rates for business

Nationwide, the top marginal tax rate for S corporations, or pass-through businesses, is 44.5 percent. The states where the top marginal rate for such businesses is the lowest, each with an average top rate of 39.6 percent, are:

• 1. Wyoming

• 2. Washington

• 3. Texas

• 4. Tennessee

• 5. South Dakota
