ATLANTA - Leaders of metro Atlanta's public transit system hope local celebrities can help promote their new campaign to crack down on unruly riders.

MARTA marketing director Jennifer Jinadu-Wright says she's trying to line up local celebrities like comedian Jeff Foxworthy and hip-hop artist Ludacris because they're respected in the community and can appeal to a diverse audience. The celebrities would appear in public service announcements.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports That the goal is to promote the system's "Ride with Respect" policy, which will be implemented Nov. 9.

MARTA's board recently approved a new code of conduct that allows the transit system's police to suspend unruly passengers from using the system for offenses such as spitting, panhandling, soliciting, eating or drinking.

MARTA stands for Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.
