Artifact's 'Alumni' features art by Darwent, Padgett - Sept. 20

photo "South Carolina(pool)" is a 32- by 32-inch archival pigment print created by Shane Darwent in 2012. It is among the works by Darwent and fellow Artifact alumnus Luke Padgett on view at the Duncan Avenue studio.

Artifact, a studio at 1080-B Duncan Ave., is presenting a new exhibition by alumni members Shane Darwent and Luke Padgett. The "Alumni" show is scheduled 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20.

After helping to start the studio and show space in the fall of 2011, Darwent and Padgett left Artifact after a year to pursue other ventures. They since have returned to Chattanooga and are presenting the past year's gleanings for this exhibition.

Darwent will show a portion of his traveling solo exhibition, "Coming Soon," which explores the post-recession, American landscape through photography, painting, sculpture and found-object installation.

Padgett, who has been an active freelance filmmaker since leaving Artifact, will be screening a rotating selection of recent works.

Acoustic music by traveling and local musicians will follow. Admission is free.
