A woman charged in the 2011 stabbing death of a 16-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge rather than face a second trial.

Temekia Reed, 26, pleaded guilty this morning in Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Rebecca Stern's court to voluntary manslaughter and received an eight-year sentence.

The incident arose from a street fight at College Hill Courts on Dec. 19, 2011, and prosecutors alleged that Reed stabbed Shaviya Vinson in the chest with a pair of purple-handled scissors.

Reed faced a March trial on first-degree murder that ended with a hung jury.
