Tennessee's preliminary unemployment rate in August was 8.5 percent, unchanged from the July revised rate.
The national jobless rate for August was 7.3 percent, which was down a tenth of a percent from the preceding month.
August was the third consecutive month the unemployment rate was unchanged for Tennessee, according to Tennessee Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips.
In the past year, Tennessee's rate has climbed from 8.1 percent to the current 8.5 percent.
