Dobyns-Bennett (3-2) at Ooltewah (4-1)

An early peek: The Indians ventured south from Kingsport earlier this season for the first time since a semifinal playoff loss at Red Bank in 2000. They lost 33-21 to East Hamilton. They have yet to either win or lose consecutive games and are coming off a 67-7 victory over David Crockett. Ooltewah, behind RB Desmond Pittman, outlasted East Hamilton 28-26. The Owls have won three in a row since a second-game loss (58-47) to Siegel in a shootout.

Soddy-Daisy (2-2) at Tyner (0-4)

An early peek: Both teams have struggled and Tyner has yet to get a win, losing this past Friday at home to Knoxville Catholic. Despite a quality passing performance by Hunter Maynor, Soddy-Daisy was taken apart at Cleveland (58-14). Since scoring 63 points in their first two games, the Rams have struggled in the last two, managing just 23 in losses to Ooltewah and Catholic. Soddy-Daisy, meanwhile, scored 46 the first two weeks but has managed no more than 14 in each of the two losses.

McCallie (3-2, 1-0) at Ensworth (4-0, 2-0), 8

An early peek: For the second consecutive week the Blue Tornado playing a defending state champ. McCallie got Kentucky champ Bowling Green last Friday and now must travel to the three-time Tennessee DII-AA defending champion Tigers. McCallie, which lost to Bowling Green 40-36, has never beat Ensworth, losing seven straight including one playoff battle and a 37-36 setback in 2008. The Blue Tornado have lost two straight while Ensworth is working off a 25-game win streak. The Tigers' last loss was in the 2011 regular season, 42-14 to Baylor.

Signal Mountain (4-1) at Bradley Central (3-1)

An early peek: These teams have never met in varsity competition (see this week's blog). Although Logan Fetzner did reach the 100-yard mark in a win over Walker Valley last Friday, Bradley has struggled to run the ball, relying instead on the arm of QB Brett Standifer and a quick, sturdy receiver corps. Signal coaches will likely take note of Bradley's game with Polk when Bradley allowed Zach Miller, the Wildcats' big fullback, to run for 177 yards. The visitors also have a big fullback in 260-pound James McClellan, and he too is among the area's rushing leaders. Signal should match up well in the lines with Bradley, if the Eagles aren't bigger. It will be interesting to see how much of a test the Eagles defense is for Standifer, a seasoned quarterback.
