Award-winning journalist Amber Lyon, founder of the investigative news site Muckraker.com and former CNN reporter, will be the keynote speaker for the Voices luncheon to be presented Wednesday, Oct. 3, by the Women's Fund of Greater Chattanooga.

The Women's Fund is an advocacy organization aimed at influencing legislation that affects women and girls on the local, state and national levels.

On her website, Lyon describes herself as an author, journalist, filmmaker and photographer "obsessed with hackers, human and animal rights, and revolutions."

Lyon has reported extensively on domestic child sex trafficking. Her investigation into such activity on Craigslist earned her a prestigious Gracie Award for women in media and a nomination as a finalist for a Livingston Award for Young Journalists.

Earlier in her career, she earned three regional Emmy Awards while working at KVOA in Tucson, Ariz., where she covered immigration and drug cartel border issues for the NBC affiliate. She also won an Edward R. Murrow award for an investigation into how mothers' sleeping habits were responsible for more than half of Tucson's infant deaths.

While working for CNN, she broadcast live while scuba diving in a hazmat suit from beneath the BP oil spill, contributing to the cable news network winning a Peabody award for coverage of the spill.

Voices, a first-time fundraiser for the Women's Fund, is designed to be inspirational, educational and entertaining. The event will kick off with Power of the Purse, a silent auction of one-of-a-kind offerings from Chattanooga retailers.
