Students, alumni, faculty and even administrators at Vanderbilt University on Friday had one message for survivors of sexual violence, including the woman police say was raped by four ex-football players June 23: We stand with you.

Dozens of Vanderbilt faithful spread out across the campus noon Friday carrying signs that read, "I stand with hope," "I stand with equity" and "I stand with survivors of sexual assault." From the athletic department to the law school, they held those signs and handed out stickers in a show of solidarity for victims of sex crimes.

"This is not a protest, it's a vigil," said the Rev. Becca Stevens, Episcopal chaplain at Vanderbilt University. "There may be a time to protest later, but this is to honor those who have endured the pain of sexual assault alone and to know that there's a whole community that stands with them now."
