Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke has withdrawn his offer to purchase the former Harriet Tubman public housing site for $1 million.

This summer Berke had proposed purchasing the 35-acre tract of public housing from the Chattanooga Housing Authority and turing the land into an industrial site.

Berke announced today that he was taking the offer off the table.

"It is clear that CHA will accept the highest bid, which is an amount beyond what we are willing to pay," he said in a prepared statement.
