Two-time Grammy winner Sylvia McNair has 70 recordings to her credit. They range from Mozart arias to the music of Jerome Kern and Harold Arlen. This season, she released a Christmas album "Peace," and a disc of Latin American jazz standards, "Romance."

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will salute one of the American songbook's greatest team of writers at its Pops concert on Saturday night, April 5, in the Tivoli Theatre.

"Here To Stay: The Gershwin Experience" pays tribute to brothers George and Ira Gershwin with a multimedia show that includes performances by the CSO supplemented by rare audio and video footage of the Gershwins.

In addition, "The Gershwin Experience" travels with its own featured artists: vocalist Sylvia McNair, tap dancer Ryan VanDenBoom, pianist Jeffrey Biegel and conductor/vocalist David Snyder. Bob Bernhardt will conduct this final Pops concert of the season, with assistance from Snyder.

Samantha Teter, CSO director of marketing, says the multimedia experience tidily wraps up the variety of themes performed during this Pops season.

"We had a Rodgers and Hammerstein concert, a Broadway theme, a salute to the movies. I think Gershwin takes in everything we've done this year," she explains.

The two-act performance includes 17 numbers written or arranged by the brothers. All the audience's sentimental favorites -- "Embraceable You," "'S Wonderful," "Summertime," "I've Got Rhythm" -- will be played as well as some the audience may not be as familiar with such as "Slap That Bass."

Teter notes that George Gershwin also wrote a classical piece, "Allegro Agitato," which is included in the program. "Rhapsody in Blue," arguably the most recognizable hit, will close the first act.
