Central High School's football job open again

Central High School again is looking for a football coach.

The Purple Pounders thought they had ended the search to replace John Allen when KiJuan Ware accepted the job in the first week of March.

"It's one of those things. It didn't work out," Central principal Finley King said Thursday. "We're trying to minimize the negatives for the kids, but it just wasn't a match between him and us."

When contacted and asked about the change, Ware, an assistant at Eastern Michigan University, referred the Times Free Press to the Central administration.

"You need to talk to the athletic director there about that," he said.

The job officially came open last November, and the Central administration and its advisory committee initially pared its candidates list to 20.

"We narrowed the search from 20 to 10 to five," King said. "We'll go back to the other four finalists and pick the coach from that group."

Ware said he hoped to have a coach in place by the middle of next week.

• Todd Roland and Kraig Campbell, assistants at area programs, have accepted head coaching positions elsewhere.

An assistant to first Robert Akins and then Grant Reynolds at Boyd-Buchanan, Roland is leaving after 18 years at the local school to become head coach at Jackson Christian School in West Tennessee.

Campbell, most recently an assistant at Red Bank, has accepted the head football job at Ezell-Harding Christian School in Nashville.
