Courter: Things I wish my kids would ask me

Thursday, April 3, 2014

Editor's note: Barry Courter has a 24-year-old son who is a college graduate and a 19-year-old daughter who is a sophomore in college.

Q: Dad, what is one of the biggest life lessons you've learned lately?

A: That there really isn't that much new under the sun. What I mean is, someone, somewhere has or is likely going through whatever you are, so rather than spend a lot of time reinventing the wheel, spend a little time looking for that person. Obviously, the Internet is a good source, but so are older people. I think we forget them as a resource sometimes, and that's a shame. When it comes to real life lessons, they've been there and done it many times over.
