Former NFL defensive end stars in Knoxville Opera

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A former Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens defensive end is singing one of the lead roles in the Knoxville Opera Company's production of Bellini's "Norma."

Ta'u Pupu'a studied music at Julliard after an injury ended his career in professional football. He will perform the role of Pollione today at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Pupu'a is joined by Rochelle Bard in the role of Norma and J'nai Bridges in the role of Adalgisa.

The story of "Norma" is a triangle of forbidden love against the backdrop of war between the Gauls and the Romans in 50 B.C.E.

The production is presented in Italian with projected English translations. A preview begins 45 minutes prior to the performances.
