WALKER COUNTY - A six-year-old kindergarten student was killed about 7 this morning in front of Chattanooga Valley Elementary School in Flintstone, Ga., when he stepped in front of a bus that then moved forward, the Georgia State Patrol reported.

Officials said the young boy had ridden the bus to school and had just gotten off before stepping in front and being hit.

The names of the boy and the Walker County Schools bus driver have not been released by officials.

The family of the child was gathered at a church across from the school late this morning.

The school did not shut down for the day, but some parents did come by to pick up their children.

Officials said students were being restricted to their classrooms during the day.
