Ex-substitute teacher in AL arrested on sex-crime charges

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A former substitute teacher at a private school in the Montgomery area has been arrested on several sex-crime charges.

WSFA-TV reports Montgomery police arrested Anthony Ray Staten Jr. on charges of electronic solicitation of a child, second-degree sexual abuse and working as a school employee while having sexual contact with a student under age 19.

The school issued a statement Saturday saying Staten had been fired about a week before his arrest last Thursday.

Staten was booked last week at the Montgomery County jail. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
