3 motorcyclists injured in wreck

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Bradley County EMS reported that an apparent accident between two motorcycles and a car led to the three people on the motorcycles suffering serious injuries and being taken to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga.

A news release said the crash Sunday afternoon on Frontage Road led to two of the motorcyclists being taken to Erlanger via Life Force helicopters. A third motorcyclist was taken to Erlanger in an ambulance.

A woman and a child were the occupants of the passenger car and were taken to Sky Ridge Medical Center with minor injuries.


Two teens shot while on horse

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - A sheriff says two Alabama teenagers riding a horse were wounded in a shooting over the weekend.

Al.com reported an 18-year-old suspect, Jason Preston Oliver, of Albertville, has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault in the case.

Marshall County Sheriff Scott Walls said the two teen victims were on horseback Saturday night when they were hit by gunfire from a shotgun. They were taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The shootings happened near Albertville, about 45 miles southeast of Huntsville.

It was not immediately known if Oliver had an attorney.


Judge dies in cycle crash

BLUE RIDGE, Ga. - A sheriff says a North Georgia judge was killed in a crash while riding a motorcycle.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Fannin County Chief Magistrate Judge Ronald Newton died Sunday afternoon in a wreck on Georgia Highway 60 near Mineral Bluff, Ga. Fannin County Sheriff Dane Kirby said Newton and his wife, Rita, were struck head-on by an oncoming car.

Authorities said Rita Newton was taken to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga. Her condition was not immediately available.

Kirby said the driver of the car involved in the crash was jailed with charges pending. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.


Scalia to deliver lecture at UT

KNOXVILLE - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia is speaking at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

According to the school, Scalia will present the College of Law's annual Rose Lecture at noon today.

The event is open to law students, faculty, staff, alumni and other members of the campus community. Members of the federal, state and local judiciary also may attend.

Scalia was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1986 by President Ronald Reagan and is the longest-serving justice currently on the court.
