AL man sentenced to 25 years in mother's death

BESSEMER, Ala. — A Talladega County man has pleaded guilty in his mother's 2011 shooting death.

Drew Thacker of Oak Grove was charged with fatally shooting his parents, but pleaded guilty in only his mother's death as part of a deal negotiated with prosecutors. Thacker was initially charged with capital murder but instead pleaded guilty to murder.

In court, 19-year-old Thacker said he was suffering withdrawal symptoms from heroin before the shootings and was angry that his parents recently kicked his brother out of the house over his drug habit.

Thacker said he shot his parents execution style, stole money from his father's wallet and got high with his brother.

In court, one of Thacker's aunts told him she wishes he'd never been born.

Thacker was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
