Chattanooga Mayor Berke aims to eradicate veteran homelessness

Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke held a roundtable discussion with veterans at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga today, and then signed an executive order to eradicate veteran homelessness by December 2016.

According to a news release, Veteran Affairs numbers indicate that at any given time where are about 150 homeless veterans in Chattanooga, about 20 percent of them chronically homeless. However, the release also indicates that because many homeless are transients, a lot more might go uncounted.

According to the release, Berke will name task force members over the next few weeks, and the initial meeting is expected to take place in early June.
