Two-time TSSAA Class AA Miss Basketball Elizabeth Masengil from McMinn Central is transferring from Austin Peay State University to Carson-Newman. CNU coach Mike Mincey announced Monday that he had signed the 5-foot-11 forward as part of his 2014 recruiting class. Masengil was the Ohio Valley Conference freshman of the week on Dec. 3 after scoring 17 points against Winthrop, and she scored 17 again against SIU Edwardsville. She averaged 6.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22.5 minutes per game for the Lady Governors. She is McMinn Central's all-time leading scorer with 2,599 points, and she also grabbed 960 career rebounds and was the class valedictorian. "At 5-11 she can do a lot of things both at the rim and then stepping out and hitting jumpers," Mincey said in the Lady Eagles' release. "Elizabeth adds another dimension to our team."

Tennis

• Wesley Cash of Chattanooga and Mark Vines of Lynchburg, Va., won 6-2, 6-0 in doubles as part of the United States' 3-0 win over Finland in the International Tennis Federation Seniors World Team Championships men's 55 division Tuesday at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. That was the Americans' first match in this year's Austria Cup competition. They face Switzerland today.

Wrestling

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Scottie Boykin, a member of the Southern Conference all-freshman team at 197 pounds, placed sixth last weekend in the FILA Junior Nationals in Las Vegas. Boykin was a win away from the championship match. He reached the 211-pound semifinals before losing 11-10.

Golf

• The Lee University women's golf team finished third at 626 in the Gulf South Conference tournament at Tunica, Miss., and the Lee men were fourth at 874 in their 54-hole event. The Flames' Shea Sylvester and Hunter Vest were fourth and fifth individually at 211 and 216 with Taylor Davis 17th at 223. West Florida was the men's winner at 865. The Lady Flames' Courtney Shelton and Bernadette Little were fifth and sixth at 153 and 154 with Madison Alexander tied for 11th at 160 and Cori Burns sharing 14th at 161. West Florida won with a 619, five shots ahead of West Georgia.

Softball

• Olivia Gore went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs as fourth-seeded Bryan College opened the Appalachian Athletic Conference softball tournament Tuesday in Kingsport, Tenn., with a 7-4 win over the Columbia Fighting Koalas. Katelyn Bowen was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Bryan (26-20), which plays top-seeded Reinhardt (38-8) today at 3 p.m. Heidi Daniel and Kirstie Jennings each was 2-for-4 in the win, and Kaitie Sims struck out eight batters and had only one earned run among the four she allowed. Seventh-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan (13-26) took No. 2 Milligan (21-15) an extra inning before losing 4-1 and will face third-seeded Virginia Intermont today at 5. The fourth hit of the game for Milligan's Krista Lambdin was a walk-off three-run homer. Lindsay Arndts was 2-for-4 and Stacie Nelson had the RBI for TWC.

• Trevecca Nazarene's Haley Fagan, who played last year for Chattanooga State, was the Tennessee Sports Writers Association college softball pitcher of the week for the second time in a row, but this time the player of the week was Austin Peay senior Kristin Whitmire from Apison and Ooltewah High School. Whitmire was 5-for-10 with two home runs, eight RBIs and four runs scored in four games against Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky. Fagan earned two wins, had a 1-0 loss and allowed only three earned runs in 18 innings.

Baseball

• Kevin Roberts and Grant Zawadzki each went 3-for-4 and scored two runs each, adding three and two RBIs, as Bryan College outlasted the University of Cumberlands 13-10 in NAIA baseball Tuesday. Roberts, Kelvin McMiller, Tyler Latham and Justin Morhardt homered for Bryan, Morhardt and McMiller each plating two runs and the latter scoring three. Hibraim Cordova was 2-for-4 with five RBIs and Keith Tidwell homered twice for the visiting Patriots.
