Chattanooga jobless rate falls to 6-year low

Unemployment in metropolitan Chattanooga fell to 6.4 percent last month, the lowest monthy level since October 2008.

The Tennessee Deparment of Labor and Workforce Development said the jobless rate in the 6-county Chattanooga area fell by four-tenths of a percent in March. A total of 16,260 Chattanoogans were out of work last month, compared with 237,050 that were on the job, state figures show.

Joblessness was lowest in the North Georgia counties on the Chattanooga area and highest in rural parts of Southeast Tennessee.
