Woman falls off U.K. cathedral, rescued by copter

LONDON — England is known for its beautiful old cathedrals — but they can be dangerous as well.

That was the case Tuesday when a tour of Wells Cathedral in Somerset went horribly wrong. A rescue spokesman said a 68-year-old woman fell about 20 feet, landing between two turrets roughly 150 feet off the ground.

A spokesman said the woman was part of a tour group looking at the higher parts of the cathedral who slipped and fell.

She had to be winched to safety and airlifted by helicopter as a crowd gathered below. She was taken to a Bristol hospital for treatment of arm and pelvic injuries.

The popular cathedral is located 125 miles west of London.
