Football and soccer player Stone Hood from Silverdale Baptist Academy and basketball player Antonia Martin from Richard Hardy Memorial School were honored at the annual Night of Champions banquet for the Chattanooga-area Fellowship of Christian Athletes as the Christian athletes of the year. As the runner-up, East Hamilton baseball player Matty Henshaw will join them in receiving scholarship aid for college. The Gerry Stephens Influence Award went to notable UTC boosters Sam and Pam Henry, East Hamilton Middle School teacher and FCA adviser Mary Dennis got the Jim Sattler Leadership Award, SBA baseball coach Jonathon Adcock received the Legacy Builder Coaches Award and City Church was honored as FCA church partner of the year.

Lacrosse

• The regular-season champion Sewanee men's lacrosse team dominated the All-Southern Athletic Association honors for 2014, with all four award winners, six of the 13 first-team all-conference players and two second-team selections. The Tigers' Michael Morris was the offensive player of the year, goalie Tommy Healy was the defensive player of the year, Jake Rubenstein was the newcomer of the year and Marty Watters was the coach of the year. Sewanee's Davis Brown, Brandon Barrett and Hal Smith joined Morris, Healy and Rubenstein on the All-SAA first team, and fellow Tigers Reed Daniel and Charles Richardson were second-teamers along with Centre face-off specialist Patrick Vaughn from Baylor School. Sewanee's Matthew Stiefel received honorable mention.

• Sewanee junior midfielder Sally Anne Greenwood was voted the 2014 SAA women's lacrosse offensive player of the year, and Centre College senior midfielder Sarah Mastey from Chattanooga and Girls Preparatory School is the defensive player of the year. Another GPS graduate at Centre, Audrey Powers, and Sewanee's Katie Riddle and Alexis Crittenden joined them on the All-SAA first team, and Sewanee's Wittney Reed, Chelsea Staunton, Dori Wilson and Emily Hylton were second-team selections. Sewanee's Crawford Horan and Mallory Grimm received honorable mention. Greenwood led the league in draws and draws per game and was third in assists and sixth in points. Mastey led the SAA in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers and was third in total goals and points.

Tennis

• Tony Cavett has resigned as Lee University's tennis coach after 17 seasons with the men's program and 16 with the women's. The Lady Flames went 154-116 with Cavett as coach and won the TranSouth Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2002; the men were 146-137. While at Lee he continued to serve as a teaching professional at Cleveland Country Club and said in a school posting that he plans to keep teaching and wants "to join a group in the East Tennessee area that is interested in promoting and developing the growth of the sport I have loved for so many years." Athletic director Larry Carpenter said he will begin accepting applications for a successor right away. "Coach Cavett has been a mainstay of our tennis programs," Carpenter said. "His teams were known for achieving a high level of academic success while being competitive on the courts." Dr. Paul Conn, Lee's president, said, "Tony has been a wonderful colleague and led our tennis program through a period of outstanding success. He will always be a big part of the Lee University athletic tradition."

Baseball

• Former Boyd-Buchanan player Tyler Garner went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt and a stolen base and fellow Chattanooga State transfer Alex Ridge from Ridgeland got the pitching save as Southern Polytechnic ended its baseball regular season with a 13-11 win over Mobile. Garner has the 38-16 Hornets' second best batting average, .354, and Ridge is 2-0 with a 1.82 earned run average. Another Chatt State alumnus, Colton Kinnamon from Dalton, has a 4-3 record in 41 innings pitched.

• Sewanee outfielder Michael Walker was a second-team All-SAA choice in baseball for 2014, and teammate Jack Whaley earned honorable mention. Sewanee's Tori Haugvoll and Courtney Saunders made the softball honorable-mention list.
