Rhea's Green making PGA Tour debut

Former Rhea County High School golfer Hunter Green, who played four seasons at Middle Tennessee State, will make his PGA Tour debut Thursday in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.

Green tied for second in a Monday qualifier at Carolina Golf Club. He shot a 7-under-par 63 to earn one of four available spots in the field.

Dustin Bray was the medalist, Frank Lickliter tied with Green and Fielding Brewbaker beat two others in a playoff.

Green is scheduled to begin his round at 9 a.m. off the No. 10 tee with Kevin Foley and Bud Cauley.

Gleeson to SCAD

Former Ooltewah golfer Danny Gleeson has signed scholarship papers to continue his career at Savannah College of Art and Design, which competes in the NAIA's Appalachian Athletic Conference.

First Tee marathon

Inclement weather postponed a golf marathon at Cleveland Country Club designed to raise money for the First Tee of Chattanooga. Representatives from six pro shops will meet at a date to be determined to see how many holes they can play in a 10-hour period by using one player at a time. Pledges are made on a per-hole basis and can by made at www.FriendsOfTheFirstTeeChattanooga.org. The participants are from Cleveland CC, Chattanooga G&CC, Council Fire, Lookout Mountain, Signal Mountain and WindStone.

Jenkins' guest list

The impressive list of guests for the First Tee Golf Hour hosted by Chattanooga TPC director Mike Jenkins will continue throughout this summer, including an interview with World Golf Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam on Thursday at 6 p.m. on 102.3 FM. Future guests this year include PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem and GolfChannel personality Charlie Rymer.

Cleveland entries closing

Registration for the Cleveland Invitational this weekend will close this evening. The two-day tournament includes regular, senior and Stableford divisions for an entry fee of $135.

Signal has openings

Entry forms for the Signal Mountain Invitational, which is to be held May 16-18, are available in the pro shop and at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com. The entry fee is $160.

Area aces

Steve Watters scored his second hole-in-one last Wednesday at the Bear Trace at Harrison Bay. He aced No. 11 with a pitching wedge from 115 yards, with Bob Smith and Tom Baker as witnesses.

Christopher Giannotti sank his first hole-in-one Saturday at Moccasin Bend. It came on the 150-yard third hole with a 9-iron, with Austin Ray and Chad Rush as witnesses.
