A 56-year-old man from South Carolina was seriously injured Tuesday when a tree fell across the road he was driving on and landed on the roof of his car, authorities said.
The man, who has not been identified, was driving a 2014 Kia in the 2300 block of Old Wauhatchie Pike when the accident occurred around 1:30 p.m.
After the tree hit the car, the car continued south for about 200 feet before striking a guard rail and landing in a ditch, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office public information officer Janice Atkinson said.
Chattanooga firefighters removed the man from the car. More information will be released after notification of next of kin, Atkinson said.
