Police: 5-year-old struck by vehicle ran out in front of it

A 5-year-old child hit by a car on Glass Street Tuesday ran out in front of the oncoming vehicle, leaving the driver with no chance to avoid the child, an investigation by the Chattanooga Police Department has confirmed.

The accident happened at 2549 Glass St. about 7 p.m., according to a news release from the police department.

Chattanooga police said that the child suffered minor injuries and has been released from the hospital.

Several children were playing in the street when the child was struck by a passing motorist, according to the release.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and will not be charged for the accident at this time, the release stated.

The investigation is ongoing.
