The monthly installment of River City Sessions returns Friday, Aug. 8, to The Camp House, 1427 Williams St. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5.

Two musical acts and a storyteller are set to entertain.

¦ Cardon Smith and The Heat: The Georgia native and Chattanooga resident is a singer/songwriter who began strumming his guitar around the campfire for the enjoyment of his hunting buddies and soon transitioned to the local bar scene, including opening for headliners Chris Knight, Angie Aparo and Lera Lynn. Drawing influences from the Texas country/Americana scene, Cardon's music seeks the balance between hope and loss, happiness and despair. Cardon is in the process of recording his first album, which he hopes to release this fall. He will be performing with his band, The Heat.

¦ Mountain Creek House Fire: This duo features Robert Lovett and Pattee Wilbanks playing Americana, bluegrass and original tunes. Lovett, a Texas-born singer/songwriter with an Americana style, has recorded two original solo CDs that are influenced by bluegrass and country blues. Wilbanks, who has been performing in Chattanooga since the mid-'80s in various folk and bluegrass bands, plays guitar, mandolin and clawhammer banjo as well as sings.

¦ Jim Pfitzer: He has appeared as storyteller, musician, humorist and educator in almost every venue and festival in the region, and he's received national attention for his latest one-man play, "A Standard of Change," based on the life of Aldo Leopold. For the last three months, says Sessions organizer Michael Gray, Pfitzer has been hidden away in a cabin on the back of Lookout Mountain working on a new piece. He'll provide a glimpse of the new project Friday.
