To prosper, pray for people of Jerusalem and other letters to the editors

To prosper, pray for people of Jerusalem

Now is the time to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem: They shall prosper that love thee." (Psalm 122:6) Are you longing for peace, and would you also like to prosper? Pray also, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6.9) Think about it. God says he will prosper those who pray for the peace of Jerusalem! I think to prosper is to be blessed in all areas of our lives. There are so many wonderful promises in the Bible; God promises great peace to those who love his law, the Bible. (Psalm 119:165) The Bible teaches us that someday there will be a thousand years of peace but until that time comes, we can have peace in our homes and in our hearts if we worship the one true God. The Bible tells us that at that time of world peace, the king of the Jews will be sitting on his throne in Jerusalem. Jesus is the prince of peace, and his kingdom will come.

Vote yes on 1; let Tennesseans decide

In November, voters will decide who should determine public policy on abortion -- the people or activist state court judges. I, like others favoring common-sense regulation of abortion, will vote yes. As we cast our vote this fall, it is helpful to know what interest groups are funding television ads and from where their dollars are derived. While the pro-life "Yes on 1" campaign enjoys support from individual donors, churches and pro-life organizations within our state, those opposing Amendment 1 are being funded by entities around the country which perform and profit from abortion. Tens of thousands of dollars have been contributed by abortion providers in California, Massachusetts, New York and Seattle to influence Tennessee's abortion policies. A recent disclosure form documents that 94 percent of contributions to defeat Amendment 1 were made by Planned Parenthood abortion facilities and the ACLU (www.state.tn.us/tref/refcom/ref_com.htm). Please join me in casting your vote for the right of Tennesseans to decide matters of life and death for ourselves, and restore Tennessee to a destination for life rather than abortion. "Yes on 1."

Israel Turning Bad Deeds Into Evil

If a bad man takes a BB gun into an elementary school and shoots at you, he is a bad man doing a bad thing. If you return fire with a tank, you are evil. What the Israeli army has done to the people of Gaza is evil.

I've copied my comment from 8/6 when this letter was published (but I screwed up the name that time):

Ms. PATTI SHEARER, I am a member of and contributor to both Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. I hope you count me "within our state" and know that I support "...the right of Tennesseans to decide matters of life and death for ourselves...". Keep Nashville out of the decision process.

Ms. KIM CARVER, Of course response should be proportionate. If someone knocks you down and beats you, you can do the same to them but make sure they can walk away to return another day to get you back.

Rachel, since prayer is time wasted, I will hope for the peace of Gaza. We gift Israel billions of dollars worth of weapons and aid every year when those funds could be better used here - all due to Zionist and AIPAC scumbags pulling on the puppet strings of our idiot congresspeople they control (coughfleischmann).

Your lack of compassion and concern for the dead and maimed and lack of interest in the "prosperity" of Palestine speak volumes about the morality embraced by your bible and your god. You can have them both but keep them and yourself away from me. You all make me sick.

+++WE PREACH JESUS CHRIST CRUCIFIED+++

Do not presume to portray yourself as an antagonist of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. You shall alway fail. Who do you think you are? Choose an ant, or gnat to challenge, but, do not be so foolish as to oppose He who has mercifully warned you:

Matthew 21>>"Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof."

"And whosoever shall fall on this stone [JESUS IS THIS STONE] shall be broken:

but on whomsoever {you} it shall fall, it will grind him to

powder."

Sadly, Rachel Decosimo's letter is indicative of the thinking of too many of our politicians and of too many Americans in general, how they are letting their foreign policy regarding Israel and Gaza be influenced Biblically. They think that Israel is somehow blessed by God and that the Israelis are the descendants of God's "chosen people," and that America is Biblically bound to support Israel no matter what, for the sake of our own "prosperity" and blessings from God. What rubbish! We absolutely MUST rid this Biblical influence from our politics if we are ever to have a sane, balanced, and fair-minded view of the conflict there.

If what you espouse is morality, Mrs. Decosimo, I want none of it. Your notion of a God so petty that he would select a "chosen people" is perverse. Did you ever wonder why God would feel compelled to have a "chosen" people in the first place? It's so absurd it's laughable. Yet you grown adults (who should have the common sense to know better) take such Biblical mythology literally. That is truly pathetic.

The Jews are brilliant. Historically, they wrote manuscripts that they claim to be "divinely inspired" by their "prophets" and after carefully considering all the known sects of the human race, wisely decided that the God they invented, had indeed choose them to be his favorites. Boy did that work out great!

Now the myth has been proliferated over centuries so that the world, especially the US is full of fools that actually believe this, and Zionists are using this to play this country like a fiddle.

P. T. Barnum could not have done a better job :)
