A man apparently was shot in the shoulder and arm early Friday morning, although he insisted to Chattanooga police that he had not been shot.

Police responded to 8022 Old Lee Highway at 6:35 a.m. on a report of a shooting, according to the police department. When officers arrived, they found Allen Lee Edge, 60, bleeding profusely. He was taken to a hospital.

When investigators interviewed Edge, he said he was unsure what had happened, but he thought he had been electrocuted by some unknown object while asleep, and that's what caused him to bleed, according to police.

However, the physician who treated Edge said that he'd suffered two gunshot wounds, one in the right shoulder and one in the upper right arm.

Investigators were unable to locate any witnesses to the incident. The shooting is the 73rd in Chattanooga this year, and caps a violent week. During the last seven days, nine people have been shot in Chattanooga.

All of the shootings were nonfatal.
