A former Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute technician has been arrested and charged with sexual battery by an authority figure after a female patient told police she had sex with him.

Marcus Dewayne Benford, 38, turned himself in to Chattanooga police on Saturday night after a grand jury returned an indictment. He is being held on a $25,000 bond.

The patient said the pair had sex on April 21, 2013, and she reported the assault to police the next day.

The grand jury in the 11th Judicial District in Hamilton County returned the indictment on July 31, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
