Coroner identifies Georgia woman killed by stray bullet

HELEN, Ga. - Authorities in northeast Georgia have identified a Texas woman who was fatally struck by a stray bullet.

White County Coroner Ricky Barrett says 68-year-old May Araim of Houston, Texas, was hit by a stray bullet in the resort town of Helen on Saturday night.

Police said in a statement that a gun belonging to 53-year-old Glenn Patrick Lampien of Jasper, Ga., discharged and a bullet that traveled through his hand and wounded Araim, who was across the street at the time. Barrett said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was handling Araim's autopsy Monday.

Police say Lampien has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
