KNOXVILLE — A Knoxville police cadet killed in a shootout at his former girlfriend’s home that also left a family friend dead had a state-issued handgun carry permit.

Michael William Little, 21, had been a cadet with the Knoxville Police Department since February, Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said Monday.

Little and Travis Donald Wegener, 28, of Anderson County died in the 11:28 p.m. Friday shooting at 5206 Inskip Road. Wegener died from .45-caliber rounds fired by Little, authorities said.
